As you are looking to get out of debt and save money you may have read the title of today’s Blog Post and thought “what in the world does this have to do with finances?” but let me tell you – it does! Often our finances are in a mess because we are trying to live above our means, we are trying to keep up with “the Joneses” or for some other deep rooted causes we just have our lives (and homes) full of “stuff”.
Living simply helps bring calm, peace, joy, and freedom just to name a few. There is just something about simple living that brings about a slower pace which makes it easier to make good, sound decisions. When you don’t have as much “stuff” to take care of and/or pay for – life just seems easier. The stress that comes from too much “stuff” or too busy of a schedule can wreak havoc on your money situation. Let’s face it, when you are rushed and busy we often look to what’s easy as the current solution. If that means a drive thru, a new outfit, paying to have the car washed, etc. Fast, easy and convenient comes with a price to pay and most of the time that price is more than you would have invested had you slowed down and planned ahead. This circles back then to convenience now – pay later. It’s that whole pay later thing that gets us in trouble!
Let me encourage you to take a look around your house, do some de-cluttering and sell unused/unwanted items (there’s that fast cash), look at your calendar, do some de-cluttering, I’ll even go a step further and say look at your friend circle, do some de-cluttering. Even relationships can drain us and provide poor examples of good money habits.
