Did you ever wish there was an easier and even quicker way to save money or pay something off? Well I sure did! I’ve tried a lot of different methods but creating “savings buckets” has been one way that has helped me more than any other method I think.
This may sound a little complicated as you read it but trust me, once you get going it’s easy, peezy. I wanted to set up a “bucket” for my Shih Tzu who is high maintenance! Lol (Seriously, she’s like a car payment) So I decided that $100/mth would help fund her expenses. I take $25/wk and put into savings. Then whenever she gets groomed or it’s time to buy her medicine or her prescription food I transfer money from savings into checking to help with that expense. Back when I had a truck payment, my payment was in the high $300 range so I put $125/wk in savings (that’s $500/mth). When the payment came due, I’d move the money from this savings “bucket” to checking and make the payment…always paying extra. Sometimes I would empty this bucket and put it all toward the payment but sometimes I would leave a little in savings as a cushion and if I needed it could pull it out. So you are both rounding up and putting it in weekly and when those 5 week months come, put it in just like any other week. This will build up a cushion of extra.
You can do this for every bill you have or just for savings…totally up to you. You could do this as a way to save money to spend for Christmas gifts or vacation…it’s just an easy way to pay ahead and gain some extra traction no matter if it is going on a bill or just building savings.
