The dreaded de-cluttering

Well you DID come back for week two!  YAY!!!  I’m so glad you are sticking with me as we work on Spring cleaning this month.  As I’ve said, we will get to our finances a little bit later but for now we are starting with house/yard projects.

Please continue your projects thru this entire month but this week let’s move over into another part of Spring cleaning…de-cluttering!  Forgive me to those who consider this a bad word but we HAVE to get it out on the table and tackle it.

For the most part I am an organized person.  I have to have some semblance of order to function effectively and this is in all areas of my life.  I want my workspace organized, I want my calendar and to do list organized, I want my finances organized, my home…I’ll confess, I even try to organize my husband’s garage and HIS workspace!  That’s just how I am, I can’t help it.

So with that being said another form of Spring cleaning that I don’t want us to forget is de-cluttering.  I’m sure you may have many areas that need this and that’s okay.  Just make a list of them (see, here I am organizing again) and do one at a time.  Let’s start small, pick maybe a junk drawer or under a sink.  Take everything out, clean the area and then (here comes the hard part for most people) ONLY put back items that you ACTUALLY USE.  Not items that you THINK you will use at some point, or something you’ve been meaning to use and haven’t but things YOU USE ON A REGULAR BASIS.  Depending on what the discarded items are, there may be things you can sell.  (This $ can go to fun money, savings, toward a debt, etc)

Once you get this first area done, then in a couple of days pick another area and do it the same way.

Extra stars for those who go back to our Facebook Group (Budgeting Basics-A journey to debt free living) and post a before/after picture!
