This week I want to talk to you about having good balance but not the kind you may think of. This balance is living a life of balance. As I Coach people in regards to their finances, when the budget is out of balance you can almost always see that their life is out of balance as well. A lot of our day to day life spills over into our bank account. Think about your emotions…when you are sad, do you overeat (which means you’ve had to buy that food)? When you are depressed, do you tend to shop? When you are happy, do you go meet a friend to celebrate over dinner? When you are stressed, do you overspend just out of convenience? When you are busy, do you hit the drive thru for quick and convenient without thinking about the cost? Do you see where I’m going with this? SO many of our emotions tie back to our bank account.
SO I want to encourage you to take some time and look at your life, look at your schedule. Are you over committed? Does your day include stress? Is there some past hurt or situation that you are buffering to compensate for? (and this may take some digging, you may be doing this without realizing it) Do you feel bad because of your current situation so maybe over spending on/for the kids to compensate? There are TONS of examples we could use but for the sake of time – the bottom line is: take a look at your life and make the changes necessary to get it in balanced. Look at the key areas: Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness (and this includes rest), Field (your job), Friends, and Fun! Think of one of those wheel pictures and then place each area within the circle based on how much it takes, now look at that wheel and see…would it roll evenly or would it have a bad thump or wobble? Even a graph, start from a line at the bottom of the page and then go up to however much of your life each area takes. Are all of these areas level? If you have an out of balance wheel or a graph with peaks and valleys then it’s time to make some changes. For the sake of your own good, those around you AND your finances.
Guys, it CAN be done! You CAN make adjustments and when you do you will be amazed at how much better life in general really is!
