Hello and for those reading this in “real time” HAPPY NEW YEAR! I am so excited to kick off 2023!! I have SO many things I want to make available to my Budget/Money Management community this year so I have set some goals and put some action steps on my calendar to help me get them completed and ready to offer you guys.
A common theme that I’ve noticed lately is people seemingly “blowing” their budget over the weekend. This isn’t uncommon and there is a fix so let’s dive in… It is actually pretty simple-budget the weekend. Yep, that’s it! I don’t care what you call it or how you look at it: budget, spending plan, whatever just allow for EVERYTHING or allow a little extra to compensate for the weekend. If you are really disciplined then I say set an amount and stick to it! If you tend to be a little weaker when it comes to weekend spending then budget in an extra $50 (or whatever your amount is) and there is your weekend spending money.
There is nothing wrong with spending money, or even blowing money for that matter IF you can afford to do so. It’s when you are head over heels in debt or creating more debt by doing the spending that becomes the problem. You have a couple of different ways you can go about this-again AS LONG AS YOU CAN AFFORD IT AND YOUR BUDGET BALANCES-you can predetermine an amount and then call it whatever you want (weekend money, fun money, frivolous spending, etc) and that is what you dip into on the weekends or let’s say you know in February you are going to a concert, decide how much you will need and start putting money aside for it NOW. Include your food, drinks, souvenirs, uber, whatever. It’s all about creating a plan and it is perfectly okay for part of that plan to be fun money, blowing money just make sure it fits in the plan.
Don’t over-complicate or add any unnecessary stress to budgeting. It CAN be fun and easy once you get a handle on your situation.
Happy spending….and as always if you need further help PLEASE let me know. There are tools to help you take the next step successfully listed on the Solutions/Resources page of this website. Whether it is my Workbook, Course or 1 on 1 Coaching-let’s get you on the road to your financial success!
